We are transitioning from our existing Angel USB license keys to modern Dinkey USB license keys. The new solution improves compatibility with Windows 11, simplifies maintenance and enables license sharing over a local network.
Why are we making this change?
Windows 11 is progressively tightening security requirements for drivers and system memory protection. We want MiriSys products to operate without requiring customers to disable Windows security features.
The existing Angel keys use technology that requires Core isolation / Memory integrity to be disabled for proper communication.
In the past, this was a workable and commonly used configuration. As Windows 11 continues to evolve, however, we do not want the long-term operation of our products to depend on exceptions to operating-system security.
We have therefore redesigned the licensing module and moved to Dinkey technology, which is better aligned with current Windows requirements.
The result is simpler installation, fewer dependencies on individual PC configurations, and a solution prepared for future Windows development.
What the new solution brings
This modernisation is more than a replacement of the physical USB key. It also changes how licenses are installed, managed and used.
Windows protection stays enabled
The new license key does not require Core isolation / Memory integrity to be disabled.
No separate drivers
Dinkey USB keys do not require a separate driver, simplifying deployment and future maintenance.
One key for multiple workstations
One key can be connected to a license server and the license can be made available to other workstations over the local network.
One USB key, multiple workstations
For companies with multiple computers, a separate USB key is no longer required on every workstation. The new licensing module allows the license to be made available across the local network.
Why do we recommend updating?
The existing Angel-based solution may continue to work on some current PCs. However, it depends on a Windows configuration that limits the use of certain security features.
With future Windows updates, security and driver requirements can be expected to continue tightening. We therefore recommend moving to the new solution proactively, rather than waiting until a future Windows update causes a problem with the existing licensing system.
