Large Format Scanner for physical templates

Product introduction · MiriSys LFS
Large Format Scanner for physical templates
In the previous article, we explained why scanning cardboard boxes with a traditional scanner is not enough for production. The next step is the device that makes this workflow reliable: the MiriSys Large Format Scanner.
The LFS works together with MiriSys software to digitize paper and cardboard templates into vector data. Instead of delivering only a bitmap image, it creates structured geometry that can be exported to ASTM, AAMA or DXF formats.
The important difference
Traditional scanners create images. MiriSys LFS creates vector data.
For documentation, a bitmap image may be sufficient. For production preparation, it is usually not. Operators need contours, internal lines, slots, folds and other construction features that can be processed further in CAD or production software.
Bitmap image
The physical template is captured as pixels. The operator can see the template, but production geometry must still be interpreted, redrawn or manually corrected.
- visual scan output
- manual interpretation of construction lines
- additional work before production data is ready
Digitized vector part
The template is processed by MiriSys software into structured vector geometry and can be exported to industry formats such as ASTM, AAMA or DXF.
- contours and internal geometry
- production-oriented vector output
- faster path from physical sample to digital data
Visual comparison
Image only vs. digitized part
Drag the slider to compare the same cardboard template. The enlarged detail highlights the same scanned area in both outputs and shows why the LFS is more than a large camera box.
The difference is not the outer outline. The key difference is whether the scan remains a visual image or becomes usable production-oriented data.
Closed box, stable lighting, repeatable results
The LFS is built as a closed scanning box. This helps eliminate changing ambient light and creates controlled conditions during the capture of templates.
For warped or slightly bent templates, the lid presses the material against the glass scanning surface. The result is a consistent scanning plane and reduced influence of material thickness.
Integrated 3D LED illumination
The scanner includes integrated 3D LED lighting designed to help capture internal lines, folds, creases and other details that are difficult to detect with a conventional flat scan.
This continues the workflow described in the previous article: the goal is not only to see the template, but to digitize the elements that define how the part is produced.
Available configurations
Standard sizes and custom manufacturing
LFS can be manufactured to customer requirements up to a maximum size of 1800 × 2500 mm. The most common configurations are listed below.
| Model | Scanning area | Camera configuration | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| LFS1225 | 1200 × 2500 mm | 2 Canon DSLR cameras | Large templates and long cardboard or paper patterns |
| LFS1218 | 1200 × 1800 mm | 2 Canon DSLR cameras | Medium and large templates with a smaller installation footprint |
| LFS0912 | 900 × 1200 mm | 1 Canon DSLR camera | Smaller templates and compact production environments |
| Custom LFS | Up to 1800 × 2500 mm | According to final size and configuration | Special workflow, material or installation requirements |
Hardware platform
Robust construction with practical serviceability
The scanner is built on a robust aluminium construction and uses commonly available Canon DSLR camera technology. This supports serviceability and simplifies long-term maintenance compared with highly specialized camera modules.
Assembled or partially disassembled
Depending on the scanner size and transport conditions, the LFS can be delivered fully assembled or partially disassembled.
On-site setup
Installation and operator training are provided by MiriSys or certified partners.
MiriSys digitization workflow
The hardware is designed to work together with MiriSys software for converting templates into vector data.
